What is Quick Straight Teeth?
Quick Straight Teeth — QST — is a short-term orthodontic system using fixed clear brackets and tooth-coloured wires. Unlike full orthodontics, it only moves the front six to eight teeth, the ones visible when you smile, rather than repositioning your whole bite. Because the back teeth aren't involved, the forces needed are gentler and the timeline is shorter — typically four to twenty-four weeks, depending on how much correction is needed.
Who is it actually for?
QST suits mild to moderate crowding, rotation, or gaps in the front teeth, where you're happy with how your back teeth meet and just want the visible smile line straightened. It's not the right tool for anything more complex — significant bite problems, or misalignment involving the back teeth — which is where Invisalign or full orthodontics do a job QST can't.
Quick Straight Teeth vs Invisalign — how do I know which is right for me?
The honest answer is it depends on your case and your preference, not on one being categorically better. QST is fixed — you can't take it out yourself — and works faster because it's only moving a handful of teeth. Invisalign is removable, and can handle a wider range of cases including some back-tooth movement, over a longer timeline. Some patients prefer not wearing something removable they have to remember to put back in; others prefer being able to take it out to eat. We'll look at your teeth and talk through both honestly — Dr Barclay leads QST, Dr Griffin Giliker leads Invisalign, and between us we'll tell you which actually fits your case, not just which we'd rather do.
What does treatment actually involve?
It starts with a full assessment — digital photographs, X-rays if needed, impressions or a digital scan, and a look at your bite and smile — to check QST is genuinely the right fit before anything's fitted. Fixed brackets and tooth-coloured wires are then placed on the front teeth only, adjusted periodically as they move into position. Once treatment finishes, retainers — a fixed one bonded behind the front teeth, plus a removable clear one — keep the new position stable, the same as with any orthodontic treatment.
A real case
Crossed-over front teeth, five months, no drilling.
A patient in her twenties came to us self-conscious about her crossed-over upper front teeth. She'd previously had partial clear aligner treatment elsewhere, but it had relapsed after the company providing it stopped trading — leaving the job half-finished and the teeth drifting back.
She had a genuine Class II bite with an increased overjet and a mild anterior open bite, and was only interested in treating the upper arch. The honest options were: full comprehensive orthodontics to correct everything, likely twelve to fifteen months and possibly involving extractions — or an upper-only Quick Straight Teeth appliance, treating just the crossed-over front teeth in four to six months, while accepting that the underlying bite discrepancy wouldn't be fully corrected.
She chose the second option, with that trade-off explained and agreed upfront. Treatment took five months, using a sectional fixed appliance on the upper front teeth only, with small interproximal adjustments between the central incisors to avoid an unsightly gap opening up as they straightened.
The result: well-aligned upper front teeth, slightly more prominent than a full correction would leave them, exactly as agreed beforehand. She was pleased with the outcome. Lower incisor contouring and whitening followed to finish the smile.
This is the honest trade-off Quick Straight Teeth involves in cases like this — a real, meaningful improvement, faster and less invasive than full orthodontics, in exchange for accepting that some underlying imperfection stays.
