You’ve seen them on Instagram, in magazines, and maybe on that one friend who suddenly smiles in every photo. But what actually happens when someone gets veneers?Let’s skip the mystery and talk about what they are, how they work, and why planning is the difference between “new teeth” and “new confidence.”

1️⃣ Definition: Thin, Smart, Strong

Porcelain veneers are bespoke shells of ultra-thin ceramic (around 0.3–0.7 mm) that fit over the front of your teeth. They’re custom-made for you — not “Hollywood stock.” Think of them as precision-made covers that enhance shape, shade and proportion while protecting the tooth underneath.

2️⃣ The Smile Design Stage

At DR JB Smile Clinic, we start every veneer case with a 3D Trios scan — no gooey impressions, no “open wide” nightmares. We capture high-resolution images, facial photos and bite data, then digitally map how each veneer will complement your lips, eyes and facial symmetry.

You’ll see a 3D mock-up of your new smile before we touch a single tooth. If you’d change something, we tweak the design first — not your enamel.

3️⃣ Preparation: Gentle, Minimal, Tailored

Depending on your case, a veneer may need fractional enamel reshaping so it sits flush. In some patients, we can do no-prep or minimal-prep veneers — a true preserve-what-you-have approach. Most cases require local anaesthetic (some may not need it), and you’ll leave that day with temporary veneers to trial your new look.

“Netflix smile trial run,” one patient called hers — and we liked that.

4️⃣ The Lab Collaboration

Once your design is locked in, your scans go to our master ceramist — the dental artist who hand-crafts your veneers layer by layer. Porcelain powders are fused, glazed, and polished to mimic the translucency of real enamel. We review every piece under magnification before it ever reaches your mouth.

5️⃣ The Fitting Appointment

Each veneer is checked on your teeth before bonding — you get full approval. Then, under microscope magnification, we bond them using advanced resin cements. The margins are polished, your bite re-checked, and suddenly the mirror goes quiet… because you’re smiling.

6️⃣ Aftercare & Maintenance

Porcelain veneers aren’t high-maintenance, but they do like a little attention:

• Brush and floss as usual.

• Visit for your routine AirFlow polish once or twice a year.

• Skip pen-chewing, nut-cracking, and ice-munching.

• Schedule a quick smile MOT every 12 months for check and polish.

Most patients forget they’re even there — until someone compliments them again.
