🧲 Let’s Start with the Truth
I have a confession to make. I’m a dentist… and I suffer from tonsurephobia - I can’t stand getting my hair cut.
It’s not the stylist’s fault. It’s not the scissors. It’s just… something about the whole thing. I sit there feeling awkward, slightly trapped, making uncomfortable small talk, counting down the seconds until it’s done. And I'm sure my Mum may or may not have cut my ear. Either way, I've blanked it out.
So I leave it. For months. Until my mop of hair becomes the joke of the clinic.
Then I finally brave the chair, wondering why I put it off so long. Sound familiar?
If you’ve ever felt nervous about going to the dentist — whether it’s been 6 months or 6 years — I completely understand. You’re not alone. And you’re certainly not the only one who leaves things a little too long.
🧠 Why So Many People Feel Nervous
Dental anxiety is incredibly common. In fact, over 50% of UK adults report some level of nervousness when it comes to seeing the dentist.
For some, it’s the fear of pain. For others, it’s the smell, the sounds, or the fear of being judged. Some just don’t like the feeling of not being in control.
Whatever the reason — it’s real. And it’s valid. We’ve met patients who haven’t sat in a dental chair for over a decade. And we’ve helped them take the first step — without pressure, without guilt.
🛠️ Here’s What We Do Differently at DRJB Smile Clinic
We know how it feels to be nervous — so everything we do is built around making you feel safe, respected, and in control.
We explain everything before we begin – so you know exactly what to expect
We let you set the pace – raise a hand, and we stop
We use the gentlest tools available – often no drills, no needles, no pain
We focus on progress, not judgement – no lectures, ever
We treat you like a person, not a problem – because you are
This isn’t about perfect teeth. It’s about helping you feel confident, heard, and ready.
💬 One Patient’s Story (shared with permission)
One of our patients — let’s call her Sarah — hadn’t seen a dentist in nearly 10 years. Life had been busy, and the longer she left it, the harder it felt to come back. She told us:
“I was so sure you’d tell me off. Instead, you just listened and helped me feel normal.”
Now? She visits regularly. She even brings her teenage son. And last week, she laughed at my haircut — or lack of one.
💷 What Happens If You Keep Putting It Off?
We understand it’s hard to take that first step. But the truth is, small problems grow. What could be a quick, pain-free solution today might need more work (and cost) down the line.
That’s why we offer gentle check-ups, no-pressure consultations, and honest conversations — even if you're not ready to book treatment yet.
You can come in, talk to us, meet the team — and take it from there.
